Growing up in New Orleans on the edge of the French Quarter exposed Barbara at an early age to the color and flavor of the Big Easy.  Musicians, street dancers, mule drawn carriages, shot gun houses, street cars, red bean Mondays, saints, voodoo queens, and Mardi Gras.  That was her world, and much of her art work is inspired by this culture.  Her early training in dance also impacts her work, and she considers some of her best artwork to be of the human form.  Barbara studied art at the University of New Orleans, Tulane University, the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, and in numerous workshops.  Her work has been shown in local galleries and is represented in private collections.
